News flash for your smartphone!

More and more photos are being taken every day since the majority of smartphones have become our digital cameras. Many cameras have great pixel qualities; you can edit it and with Instagram even add effects to make your photo unique. However, there is still one problem with dark photos – the lack of a good flash. The evening is one of the times people socialize and interact the most and if you there isn’t good lighting around, your photos won’t turn out great.

Well, the problem might be over. The iblazr mobile phone flash is developing a product to be compatible with iOS and Android devices that gives the ability to take higher quality pictures at night. Another great aspect of this product is that it works effectively for both photos and videos.

As soon as people start using this product, we should be seeing a lot more pictures and videos in social networks taken in the evening. This new feature comes at a great time for Vine, as well as Instagram, who has launched video sharing capabilities.

People will be able to take more pictures during music concerts, inside a movie theater, and during special occasions like evening fireworks during the fourth of July and New Years.

This external accessory is connected in the audio jack of your smartphone and it also has its own battery so it won’t consume your smartphone’s power. The iblzar flash is only 10mm thick. It would be perfect for digital marketing agencies especially those that might be on a budget and are still looking to give their employees the ability to take quality photos and videos with their smartphone.

There is no official date set for the release of this product or of the price of this product, but this is something people can look forward to. Do you think you would use this new accessory? If so, share your thoughts below!

Twitter vs. Instagram: A War on Pictures

By now most of you have heard of the ongoing feud between Instagram and Twitter, but incase you haven’t been keeping up I’ll break it down for you. It all started this spring:

April
Facebook makes offer to purchase Instagram for $1 billion.

August
On the 14th the Office of Fair Trading approves the deal, while the Federal Trade Commission closes their investigation concerning the deal on the 22nd.

September
The deal between Instagram and Facebook officially closes on the 6th and Instagram surpasses Twitter in daily active mobile users.

November
Twitter, who attempted to purchase Instagram, announces they will be releasing their own range of photo filters in the coming months.

Now, just last week Instagram photos on Twitter were appearing oddly cropped and yesterday Instagram photos have completely disappeared, though, they can still be viewed through the URL of the original tweet. Obviously many social media users are starting to express their frustration, but it will be interesting to see how users respond in the coming months after Twitter releases their photo filters. Will people begin to choose one network over the other and how will the digital agency respond to the change?

Marketing via Instagram

Personally, I love reading how brands interact with their customers, and there’s tons of ways to do so with all of the social networks people are on these days, but one I never would have thought of?

You probably know what Instagram is, but if not, it is a photo-sharing mobile app that allows you to put vintage filters and effects on your photos. You can follow others, gain followers, “like” photos, and even hashtag them, making them searchable, just like hashtagging tweets. There are a few companies that are capitalizing on the uniqueness and flexibility of Instagram and using it for their marketing and branding, but letting users make it their own.

Tiffany & Co.
Last year, Tiffany’s launched an Instagram campaign that has the bonus of gaining three new filters for following them – Tiffany’s blue, peach, and black and white. This campaign also calls for users to post pictures of themselves with their significant other, tagged with the hashtag #TrueLovePictures.  Tiffany & Co has also set up a website that gives a live-updating website called True Love in Pictures that shows a selection of pictures from Instagram. Not only is this allowing Tiffany & Co. fans to take part in the experience, but it always gives them relevant content.

Comodo
A Latin American restaurant in NYC’s Soho, Comodo, has made the dining experience a social one, too, by inviting diners to take photos of their meals (as Instagrammers are wont to do) and tag it with #ComodoMenu, allowing their guests to “see” dishes and help them decide what they want, and seeing what their friends recommend.

There are a few other companies taking the relatively untouched marketing territory of Instagram, but a social media agency could do a lot to engage fans of a brand by making it interactive and letting fans engage creatively like this.

The Best of Both Worlds

Pinstagram, a free service that displays your Instagram photos in the Pinterest waterfall format. Since Instagram did not have a web or iPad application, this is the perfect pair. Pinstagram combines two of the hottest social networks into one easy to use application available on the web or iPad.

Personally, I love this new application, it makes it a thousand times easier to view your Instagram pictures. Once you sign in with your current Instagram account, your pictures are automatically displayed in the waterfall format that every Pinterest user in a costume too. This layout allows users to view more pictures at once.

Pinstagram also offers additional views of pages. For example there is your home page, most popular page, your profile page, and a page which displays the photos you have liked. Additionally Pinstagram allows users the ability to search for a specific tag.

If you have been waiting for Instagram on your Ipad, this new application offers the best of both worlds. I love that the digital world is always trying to think of the next best thing, and I think the creators of Pinstagram have found it. Everyone loves Instagram and Pinterest, so why wouldn’t you love them as one, I know I love it!

Facebook’s Latest App

Facebook has released their own “Instagram” twin. Facebook Camera, with a newsfeed that only displays friends photos, it’s the latest way to share pictures with your friends.

Facebook Camera, a free download in the App Store, offers very similar features to Instagram. Facebook Camera allows users to post multiple pictures at once, see their friend’s latest pictures, edit pictures and add camera filters, tag their friends and add their location. It also allows users to see pictures from other applications.

Facebook Camera has a similar feel to Instagram but I don’t think it replaces Instagram. Being in the digital world, I had to check out this new Facebook application. It didn’t spend much time in the app because I was highly disappointed. First, it offers poor camera filters and secondly the pictures are pulled directly from Facebook which means you are going to see the same pictures that are on your Facebook newsfeed.

The fun thing about Instagram is that people’s pictures are usually only posted in there, so you don’t see duplicates across social media outlets. In my opinion, I found this to be the most annoying part of Facebook Camera so I’m sticking with Instagram for now.
