My name is Nick Meador. I recently finished the Masters of Journalism program at Michigan State University, during which I focused on online news production. Previously, I received a BS in Zoology from the Lyman Briggs School at MSU.
I’ve completed three internships in the communication field, two of which were in journalism. I have experience with writing, reporting, and editing. I can create and edit content using text, photos, video and audio. I’m able to create and maintain WordPress blogs and HTML-based websites.
This summer, I developed a website called Supraterranean.com as the final project for my masters program. The site was imagined as an open-access web community for writers and artists to post their creative work, including everything from fiction to short films to experimental multimedia. I used CSS to style the site, and AJAX widgets to allow ratings and comments. I currently handle all editing, art direction, and web design for the site.
My professional interests are diverse, and include writing about music, culture, science, and environmental issues, as well as Internet publishing and creative writing. I also hope to increase my experience with web development and graphic design in the near future. I’m interested in finding news ways for people to interact, share, and communicate using the web. Even though I’ve departed from my previous studies in science, I will always enjoy problem solving and analytical reasoning.
I am experienced with Adobe Creative Suite 3, including Dreamweaver, Photoshop and InDesign, with some exposure to Flash. I am also fluent with Microsoft Office, mostly with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. I’m comfortable with Mac applications for editing audio (GarageBand) and video (iMovie), and I have even more experience with Windows.
Thank you for your time and attention.
Sincerely,
Nick Meador
